Strengths Based Radio takes an open and asking approach to topics relating to mental health and substance abuse. Strengths Based Radio tries to get perspective on the forces at work that can influence our minds everyday. Neurotransmitters, lack of access to health care and mental illness, and the effects of stress. We hope to help broaden the channel of conversation about this critical aspect of human health. In order to do this, we ask experts from a wide array of professional backgrounds and clinical approaches about what they do to benefit individuals, improve treatments, and strengthen institutions.
We also hope to affirm that the experiences of those dealing with mental health and substance abuse disorders are part of the spectrum of human experience. Their experiences, however powerful, challenging, or seemingly different from the norm they may be, are experiences, and open dialogue that starts with this understanding is a must. can help reduce the isolation and stigma that many who are living with these conditions feel.
Most of all, we hope that what you hear is hopeful, helpful, and encouraging!
“We whisper about mental health issues and avoid asking too many questions. The brain’s a body part, too. We just know less about it. There should be no shame in discussing or seeking help for treatable illnesses that affect too many people that we love.”
